Alice K. Smart died peacefully at Salisbury Gardens Assisted Living Facility on November 18, 2013. Alice was predeceased by her devoted husband, Frederick Wilcox Smart in 2008, and her cherished pets Max and Eva. She is survived by her daughters and their husbands Audrey and John Knall, and Laura and Les Button, her treasured grandchildren Emily Button Kambic and husband Robert, Neil Button and Alan Button, and her sister Seda Tarzian.
Born in New York City in 1930, Alice moved to Upper Darby PA where she graduated high school in 1947. After a career as an executive secretary, she traveled the world with her husband and lived in both Liege, Belgium and Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela where she perfected her language skills. It was always her dream to complete her college education, and in 1998 she graduated from St. Andrews College at the age of 68. In her retirement, she tutored students in French and Spanish at Sandhills Community College in Pinehurst, NC and at a local senior center. It was her joy to help students of all ages and reveled in their progress.
The family would like to thank the entire Salisbury Gardens staff and Community Health and Hospice for the gentle, kind care they gave Alice and her family.
In accordance with her wishes, there are no formal funeral services.
