Judy Bell Billings, age 66 of Sparta, NC died Wednesday, March 19, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC.
Judy was born March 6, 1948 in Morganton, NC to the late Walter Lee and Nella Rose Goodman Bell. She joined older sister, Susie. Judy and Susie were raised in many different places: Kansas, Savannah, GA, Denver, and Wiesbaden, Germany as the family followed Walter for his career in the Air Force. After Walter retired, Judy followed her parents back to Sparta, where she held a variety of jobs around the town before attending Wilkes Community College to become a Certified Nurses Assistant. She worked at Margate Health and Rehab in West Jefferson, NC until she retired. After retirement, Judy enjoyed redecorating her home and volunteering at the VFW. She also attended church at the First Baptist Church of Sparta on a regular basis. She was known among friends to take in hard case cats. One cat was caught in a trap, and another cat only had three legs. Both were special to Judy.
She is survived by one daughter, Anjie Kendall and her husband Erin of Frederick, MD; one granddaughter, Aurra Kendall of Frederick, MD; one grandson, Aleister Kendall of Frederick, MD; one sister, Susie Strate and her husband, Chris of West Point, Utah, and Best Friend, Mary Nilo of Sparta, NC. Several nieces and nephews also survive. Judy was preceded in death by her father, Walter L. Bell; mother, Nella Goodman Bell; and several beloved cats.
Judy wished for her body to be donated to science so that future doctors could learn from her. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Sparta. Please call the First Baptist Church for more information. Memorial donations can be made to the ASPCA or Twin Oaks Veterinary Clinic.
