Clyde Benton Mabry, Jr. 81, of Salisbury passed away on Friday, March 21, 2014. Clyde was born on June 19, 1932, in Norwood, NC, son of the late Clyde Benton Mabry, Sr. and Geneva Poplin Mabry.
Clyde graduated from Norwood High School and North Carolina State University. He is a Veteran of the United States Air Force, having served 4 years. Clyde retired from West Rowan High School as an Agriculture Teacher. He enjoyed fishing, reading (especially cook books) and bird watching. Clyde was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church where he sang in the choir for several decades. He was well known at his church for his “Poor Man’s Supper”.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his sister, Lottie Mabry Massey.
Survivors: Clyde is survived by his wife of over 58 years, Frances Wingate Mabry whom he married on July 24, 1955. Children Elizabeth Mabry Cook (Fred Pizzardi), Clyde B. “Butch” Mabry, III (Sue Senior) and Thomas Coleman Mabry (Adele Mabry). Grandchildren Christopher Cook (Lauren), Melissa Gigi (Doug), Sarah Mabry, Timothy Cook (Elisa), Chris Mabry (Laura), Thomas Mabry and Anne Mabry. Great grandchildren Cole and Carson Burgess, Anisten and Lainey Cook, and Claire Cook.
Services: There will be a graveside service on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery at 2:30 PM with Military Honors provided by The Rowan County Honor Guard. A Memorial Service will follow at Shiloh United Methodist Church at 3:00 PM conducted by Rev. Angela Burris, Pastor. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the Memorial Service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care, 720 Grove Street, Salisbury, NC, 28144, or to Shiloh United Methodist Church Organ Fund, PO Box 315, Granite Quarry, NC, 28076.
