Mr. Fred Steven Strayhorn, Sr., 59, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, September 4, 2014, at the Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. He was born July 2, 1955, in Rowan County, NC to the late George V. Strayhorne, Sr. and Mary Lena Waggoner Strayhorne.
A graduate of Fort Hunt High School in Alexandria, VA, he was a master mechanic, working on diesel locomotives and automobiles, and retired from the Rowan Salisbury Schools Bus Garage. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Salisbury.
He loved his children and family dearly and enjoyed working on cars, football, and listening to classic rock music.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his fiance, Doris “Pandora” Broadway Boger; son, Fred Steven “Steve” Strayhorn, Jr.; brother, Vincent Strayhorne, Jr.; and aunt, Carrie Bell Strayhorne.
Fred is survived by his children, Dawn Nichole Cable of Gold Hill, Ruby Carrie Lena Strayhorn of Salisbury, Jessica Nicole McCall of Kannapolis, Dana Lynn McClamrock of Mooresville, and Jennifer Denise McCullen of Concord; brother, Robert Strayhorne of Annapolis, Maryland; and grandchildren, Seth, Hailie, Riley, Zary, Angel, Tanner, Kyrsten, Isabella, Brian, Jasmin, Anabelle, Ayden, Isaac.
There will be a graveside service on Monday, September 8, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury, where Fred will be laid to rest along with his son, Steve.
