Elizabeth “Betty” Ellis Youngs, 93, of Mooresville, NC, passed away August 19, 2014. She was born Elizabeth Hepburn Ellis on December 1, 1920, in Washington, DC, and grew up in Fort Still, OK; Panama City, Panama; Boston, MA ; and Baltimore, MD.

She graduated from Western High School in Baltimore in 1937, followed by two years of training in business administration in Boston. Betty was an avid and competitive swimmer, as well as a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in the Women’s Army Corps (WACS) out of Fort Dietrich, MD, during World War II.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry Van Horn Ellis and Zaidee Flather Ellis, and her siblings, John Flather Ellis, Harry Van Horn Ellis, Jr., and Phillip Chester Ellis, Sr.

She is survived by her four children: Peter Youngs and his wife, Cherie; Sherry Stitz and her husband, David; Jeffrey Youngs and his wife, Doris; and Roger Youngs and his wife, Anne. She is survived by 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Betty’s life was celebrated with a private family service.
