Dorothy Mae Mitchell, 87, of Rockwell passed away on Saturday January 24, 2015 at The Meadows of Rockwell surrounded by family. Ms. Mitchell was born on February 20, 1927 in Cabarrus County to the late Caleb Burgess and Rhoda Burgess.

Dorothy was of the Baptist faith and was a skilled seamstress. She loved sewing and made clothes for her children all throughout school. She enjoyed spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Mitchell; a son, Samuel Leroy Sloop; a brother, George Burgess; and a sister, Ruth Johnson.

Dorothy is survived by three daughters, Dorothy Gainey and husband Charles of Salisbury, Peggy Swift of China Grove, and Judy Robinette of Kannapolis; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 12 great great-grandchildren.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Wednesday January 28, 2015 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Rockwell (8630 Hillcrest Drive, Rockwell, NC 28138).
