Iris Owen Harrison, 94, of Thomasville, passed away peacefully on April 19, 2015. She was surrounded by the love of her large family, friends and caregivers throughout the last months of her life.
Iris attended the Woman’s College of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro, now the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. She had loyal friends from those years throughout her life.
Iris was a devoted member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Thomasville, and of her Sunday School Class.
Iris was a wonderful wife to Carl, her husband of 67 years, both natives and lifelong residents of Thomasville. They also enjoyed their vacation home in the Blue Ridge Mountains in Fancy Gap, VA. For many years they spent part of their time with family, and many friends they met at Skyland Lakes and Chalet High.
Iris is preceded in death by her husband, James Carl Harrison, Sr., and by her parents, Emma Elizabeth Clapp Owen and William R. Owen. Sisters, Dorothy Owen Harris and Elizabeth “Lib” Owen McAdams, and brother, James E. Owen.
Iris and Carl had four children all surviving: Barbara Carol Harrison Eichberger and husband Joe of Santa Rosa Valley, CA, James Carl Harrison, Jr. and wife Sandy of Laurel Fork, VA, Phoebe Owen Harrison Cooper of Winston-Salem, and Phyllis “Jane” Harrison and Jeff Kerr of Fancy Gap, VA. Iris is survived by 9 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. Iris is also survived by sisters, Judith Owen Hayes of Charlotte, and Patricia Owen Hedrick of Raleigh; and a brother William “Bill” Owen of Statesville.
The family wishes to thank caregivers Debbie, and Amber for their devotion to Iris and the amazing care she received from them.
There will be a Memorial Service on Saturday, April 25, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Memorial United Methodist Church in Thomasville.

Dear Friends and Devoted Family, We only met mother Iris once on Mother’s Day at Jim and Sandy’s. It was very evident Iris was truly loved by all of her family and friends. You are, one and all, a wonderful tribute to a beautiful, caring woman. May she find ever lasting peace in heaven with Carl.
