William “Bill” Robert Crutchfield, 59, of Mt. Ulla, passed away unexpectedly on February 6, 2016 at Duke University Hospital after heart surgery. Bill was born on October 3, 1956 in Salina, Kansas to Mollie Dallas Sherrill and the late Walter L. Crutchfield. Mr. Crutchfield proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1975 to 1989.

He was a 1975 graduate of West Rowan High School and was of the Baptist faith. Bill worked for the Bill Hefner VA Medical Center in Salisbury in Medical Records department until his retirement in 2014. He was a member of the Millbridge Ruritan Club and enjoyed fishing with his brother-in-law Barry Allen. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his father, he is preceded in death by his step-father, Clyde Ray Sherrill.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a sister, Vicki Allen and husband Barry of Mt. Ulla; a step-sister, Karen Eskew of Alpharetta, GA; a step-brother, Rick Sherrill and wife Jean of Arlington, TN; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

A Military Graveside Service will be held on Thursday February 11, 2016 at 9:00 AM at the Salisbury National Cemetery on Statesville, Blvd., conducted by Pastor, William “Bill” Thrailkill of Back Creek Presbyterian Church. Military Honors will be provided by the NC National Guard and the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Back Creek Presbyterian Church, 2145 Back Creek Church Rd., Mt. Ulla, NC 28125.
