Maurice Eyeington, 95, of Concord, NC passed away at his home on May 23, 2016, 10 days before his 96th birthday.
Maurice was born in York, England on June 2, 1920 to the late Herbert and Emma Eyeington. He served in the British Army during World War II and was captured by the Germans in Crete on his 21st birthday. He was held 4 and half years in German prison. Maurice moved to the United States in 1950 and worked in New York City for NBC on projects for plays, shows and the Macy’s parades. He was hired in 1960 by Boehm Porcelain where he made bird sculptures for Edward Boehm for 25 years. His work is featured all around the world. Most notably, are his sculptures called “Birds of Peace” that went to China with President Nixon in 1974. One set of the swans are on display in the Vatican Museum in Italy.
He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Patricia Saunders Eyeington; son, M. Rodger Eyeington and wife Dorothy of Leeds, England; step-daughters, Linda Knox, Deborah Hedderich and husband Frank; step-son, Frank Kemo and wife Deborah; Mark S. Kemo and wife Lisa; grandson, Adam and wife Lacy; grandaughter, Samantha; great-grandson, Oscar; great-ganddaughters, Ella, Megan and Lily; 6 step-grandsons and 2 step-granddaughters.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date.
