Russell Warren Hoag, Jr. “Hoagie”, 73, of Cornelius, NC passed away on Wednesday, May 25th, 2016 at his residence.
He was born on November 8th, 1942 to the late Russell Warren Hoag, Sr. and Mary Hoover Hoag in Asheboro, NC. He proudly served our country in the Army National Guard. Russell attended college at Stevens Institute of Technology, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and was catcher for the Baseball team. As an Engineer, Mr. Russell traveled the world and became fluent in speaking Spanish and Chinese. Russell was also a member of The American Association of Engineering Society and a member of the American Pool Players Association, where he was ranked a 7 in his skills. He was known for his love of billiards, harness racing and being an avid New England sports fan… but he mostly enjoyed the simple things in life and nothing compared to the love he had for his family.
Russell is survived by his Wife of 49 years, Phyllis Gallant Hoag, whom he married August 27th, 1967 (or August 26th, if you asked Russell). He is also survived by 3 Sons, Stephen and Wife Tiffany, of Kittery, Maine; Matthew and Wife Irina, of Chesapeake, Virginia; James and Fiancé Molly, of Charlotte, North Carolina; Spanish Daughter, Nerea Bereciartua; 5 Grandchildren, Brittany Trask, Nikkia Trask, Andrey Andreyev, Aleksandr Andreyev, Levon Hoag; 3 Spanish Grandchildren, Iban, Ander, Telmo; 1 great-grandchild, Kayleigh McNally; 2 Sisters, Candice Hoag of Templeton, Massachusetts; Jackie Suhoski of Gardner, Massachusetts; and the Bereciartua Family.
There is no service scheduled at this time, but a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Russell to the Movember Foundation, Team Hoagie’s Whisker Warriors, which funds research for men’s health and prostate cancer (http://mobro.co/jtwhiskerwarrior).
