Donnie Ray Walls, 67 of Woodleaf, NC passed away on Tuesday June 21, 2016 at the VA Medical Center in Salisbury from heart failure. He was born on October 22, 1948 in Davie County to the late Roy Adam Walls and Cora Jane Lankford. Donnie proudly served his country in the United States Army as a Sergeant in the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg where he received the National Defense Service Medal.

After leaving the military, he worked as a Supervisor for Cone Mills Corporation and retired after 30 years of employment. He found happiness on the end of a fishing pole and solace on the golf course. As a Life Member of Amvets he was active in fundraising for local veterans through Rockwell Post 845. Donnie never met a stranger, had a way of finding humor in all things and helped anyone that needed it. He was always surrounded by loyal friends and family that enriched his life.

Donnie loved Duke basketball, Yankees baseball, his loyal canine companion Angel and most of all, his

daughter. He was a doting and committed father who dedicated his life to making hers better. Their bond was special and strong and even after his passing she will always want to make him proud.

He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Hilary Dawn Walls of Charlotte and her mother Linda McDaniel Walls of Rockwell. He is also survived by his brothers and their families including Michael Walls of Woodleaf, Eugene Walls of Salisbury and Johnny Walls of Statesville.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents and his sister Patricia Walls Greene.

A brief Military service will be held on Monday, June 27th promptly at 2:00 pm at the Committal Shelter at the Salisbury National Cemetery located at 501 Statesville Boulevard. Military Honors will be provided by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the NC National Guard. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in his name to the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard at P.O.Box 923 Salisbury, NC 28145.
