Lyle James Bowen Sr., 72, of Kannapolis, passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at his residence. He was born on October 5, 1943 to the late Horle and Lily (Davis) Bowen in Baldwinsville, NY. Lyle proudly served his country in the United States Army and National Guard.
Lyle was of the Baptist Faith worked as a Shipping Manager for General Motors where he retired at the Syracuse plant. He enjoyed going to flea markets and collecting antiques. Lyle loved to travel with his family to the mountains and to the Cherokee Casino. More than anything, he enjoyed to spend time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by a son, William Joseph Bowen; a brother, Leonard Davis; and a sister, Shirley Goodspeed.
Lyle is survived by his wife of 50 years, Vera Mae Bowen; two sons, Lyle James (Tok) Bowen Jr. of Gastonia, Richard Lee (Michele) Bowen of Gatlinburg, TN; two daughters, Jolene Marie O’Brien of Salisbury, Lana Jean Bowen of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Jenna O’Brien and Kyllian O’Brien; one sister, Elizabeth Hirsh of Fulton, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday September 30, 2016 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at VFW Post 8989 (2500 N. Cannon Blvd., Kannapolis, NC 28083). Military Honors will be provided by the NC National Guard. The family will be at the home of Mrs. Bowen the remainder of the time.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
