John Smith Philbeck Jr., 66, of Statesville, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at the Gordon Hospice House in Statesville. He was born on February 16, 1951 in Shelby, NC to the late John and Carrie Tesseneer Philbeck.
John worked as a lineman for Energy United and enjoyed coastal fishing, going to flea markets, hunting, and being outdoors. He also enjoyed riding horses at horse shows and he loved to spend time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Johnny Bruce Philbeck; three sisters, Kay Jones, Geraldine Terry, Patsy Moore; and three brothers, J.B. Philbeck, Billy Philbeck, and John Wayne Philbeck.
John is survived by four daughters, Rhonda Wilson of Mooresville, Stacy Brooks (Shane) of Winston-Salem, Helen Ramon (Everardo) of Statesville, Lea Johnson of Olin; two brother-in-laws, Don Jones of Statesville, Ray Terry of Moesbury; a sister, Joyce (James) Dover of Shelby; brother, Ken (Shirley) Philbeck of Forest City; sister-in-law, Ann Philbeck of TX; five granddaughters, Meagan Lloyd, Caitlin Moody, Alana Johnson, Brianna Stikeleather, Alissa Stikeleather; and five grandsons, Trevor Lloyd, Adam Moody, CJ Johnson, Isaiah Stikeleather, Jacob Philbeck.
A Gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday March 19, 2017 at 2:00 PM at the home of Lea Johnson (704-352-6049).

Sawyer and I will miss Peanut so much. He was Sawyer’s fishing mentor and fishing buddy. He always had time to answer all of his question’s about fish. He was such a caring person and loved his family and friends dearly. He will be greatly missed by us all.

I miss poppy so much I remember spending the night on the weekends and waking up going to the flee market and just hanging out there all day and getting sausage biscuits on the way there I will never forget him he is stuck in my heart and always will be🤍
