Duane Ernest Hurrell, 88, of Salisbury, formerly of Owosso Michigan, passed away on Wednesday April 5, 2017 at Novant Rowan Regional Medical Center surrounded by family. Mr. Hurrell was born January 24, 1929 in Shiawassee County, Michigan to the late Elmer Hurrell and Thelma Hawke Hurrell. Duane proudly served his country in the United States Army.
Duane worked in marketing for Union Phone who later became General Phone and then Verizon. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, gardening, playing cards, bowling, and anything that involved being outdoors. He loved to spend time with his family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son, David Lee Hurrell.
Duane is survived by his wife of 67 years, Shirley Ward Hurrell of Salisbury; a daughter, Sherry English and husband Jim of Salisbury; a sister, Dorothy Evans of Sarasota, FL; a granddaughter, Shanna Lee Marini of Albany, GA; a great-grandson, Nicholas David Marini of Albany, GA and many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Owosso, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of the donors choice.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Duane’s passing. I have so many wonderful memories of working with him and how supportive and helpful he was to me. I loved his Christmas letter every year and how he continued to stay in touch with me. My deepest sympathy on the loss of a very dear and wonderful man.
