Mrs. Betty Jean Wise Boger, 80, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday evening, April 29, 2017 surrounded by her loving family.
Born November 27th 1936 in Rowan County, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. Wise and the late Annernette Wise Pickler.
Betty graduated from Rockwell High School in 1955. She retired in 2000 from Woodard, INC.
She was a life-long member of Providence UMC. She was active in all phases of worship. She was a grade school teacher for many years. She taught Bible school, spent a season teaching her beloved Ladies Bible class, was vice – president of the UMW, was an original “dumpling girl”. She volunteered at Rowan helping ministries for many years. Betty received special recognition as lay person of the year and a special service pin from the United Methodist Women. She actively visited the sick and shut-ins. She was volunteer of the year at Rowan Helping Ministries in 2013. Betty was famous for her homemade yeast bread. This was served for Holy Communion for many years. She was also an active volunteer with Meals on Wheels. She along with her husband, financially supported the building of wells in other countries to those less fortunate.
She found joy in her flower garden, planting beautiful flowers. Although she worked, she took great care of her family with the fresh vegetables she planted in her garden.
Preceding her in death was her step-father, Junior Pickler; brother, John “Bud” Wise and nephew, Ricky L. Wise.
Those left to carry on her legacy are her husband, Dale C. Boger, whom she married March 16, 1957. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary while she was in the hospital. She is also survived by daughter, Bonnie Boger Rollins and husband, Russell; daughter, Jill Boger Earnhardt and husband, Perry; grandchildren, Mark Rollins, Jenna and Scott Shay, Ben Rollins, Ivy Earnhardt; great-grandson, “My Buddy” Silas Shay; beloved sister, Ann Wallace; special niece and nephew, Lori Wallace Campos and Mark Wallace; and great-nephew, Will Campos.
