Willie Clifford “Bill” Poplin passed away on July 22, 2017. Bill, the son of Clyde B. and Otelia Barber Poplin, was born in Salisbury, NC, on March 25, 1930. He is survived by his loving wife Pansy Graham Poplin, his sister Mary Louise Kesler, his children Eric Clifford Poplin and Selena Rae Poplin, and his granddaughters, Ailsa Jean Poplin and Audrey Claire Poplin. Bill was a member of Rockwell United Methodist Church.
Bill began his professional career at North Carolina Finishing Company and attended N.C. State University through a scholarship provided by the company. On his return to Salisbury, Bill met Pansy Graham, the love of his life. Bill and Pansy celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on July 18, 2017.
Bill joined Swaim Supply Company and worked his way up from delivery man to Salisbury branch manager. Upon retirement, Bill worked for the City of Salisbury, assisting the horticultural staff with the maintenance and management of Hurley Park. Bill was a creative and talented man, a grand story teller, a Mr. Fixit, and a BBQ master. He cherished his family and friends, who he always treated with kindness, love, and generosity. His other passion was his home in the country. He used to say when he turned into the driveway on a Friday the road rolled up behind him until Monday morning. To Bill there was nothing better than gardening, cutting firewood, firing up the tractor to prowl the woods on his Farm, and being with Ms. Pansy.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Bill’s Life on August 26, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Rockwell United Methodist Church, Rockwell, NC. Please send honoraria to Rockwell United Methodist Church.
