Debra Cole Belk, 66, of Rockwell, passed away on Sunday, August 20, 2017, at her home surrounded by family after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Ms. Belk was born on July 23, 1951, in Ohio County, West Virginia to Lois Jones Platt “Mimi” and the late John George Platt.
Debi was dedicated and hard working. She served her community with her years of service at both the Salisbury Police Department and the Rowan County Clerks Office where she retired after 30 years. She adored her coworkers, and they became like family to her. She was a member of Ursinus United Church of Christ. Debi enjoyed gardening which was evident by all her beautiful flowers & yard that she took such pride in. She inherited her green thumb honestly from her own mother. She also loved photography and left her children boxes upon boxes of pictures to cherish, as she would not let a moment pass without stopping for a picture. She was also an avid Carolina Tarheel basketball fan and never missed a game. They will forever be National Champions to her now. Her very favorite place was the beach where she loved walking during early mornings to catch a glimpse of the sunrise. Debi had a spiritual connection to angels, which she enjoyed collecting. We take comfort knowing she is now our guardian angel.
Debi was preceded in death by her father, John Platt. She is survived by her mother, Lois Jones Platt “Mimi”, her children, Audra Cole Perry and husband Brad of Faith, Erin Cole Pastushok and husband Steve Snodgrass of Charlotte, and son, Matthew David Belk and fiancee Ashley DeFeo of Gold Hill, grandchildren Cole and Carleigh Perry and Peyton Pastushok, sisters Susan Gagich and Joei Platt, brother Greg Platt, as well as several nieces and nephews. The family would also like to thank her dear loyal friends who have helped during her illness: Cindy Botts, Colleen Carman, and Debbie Curtner.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday August 27, 2017, at 430 School Street, Rockwell 28138 from 2:00-4:00. All family and friends are welcome to drop in to gather, share, and celebrate her life.
