Donald Wayne George, 84, of Kannapolis, peacefully passed away on Monday, October 30, 2017 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC.

He was born October 26, 1933 in Springfield, IL to the late Luther and Mabel Wood George. Donald proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1951-1955, then the Reserves from 1955-1959. Donald worked as a Pilot for Brad Ragan Inc. and then Food Lion before retiring in 1996. He had a passion for flying and enjoyed doing it as much as he could, and in spare time enjoyed watching NASCAR.

Donald is survived by his sons, Larry George and wife, Tammy of Rockwell, NC; Greg George and wife, Tosha of Kannapolis, NC; daughter in law, Melissa Thornburg George of Morehead City, NC; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn Welsh and husband, Oliver of Mesa, AZ.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Ann George; son, Donald Wayne George II and brother, Richard George.

There will be a private memorial service held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tucker Hospice House, 5003 Hospice Ln. Kannapolis, NC.
