Dorothy Jean Hammonds, 72, of Norwood, passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2019 at Atrium Health Northeast Medical Center in Concord, NC.

She was born May 16, 1947 in Harleyville, SC to the late Joseph Canaday and Geneva Byrd Canaday. Dorothy worked as a homemaker and in her spare time she enjoyed oil painting, playing on the computer and reading romance novels. Dorothy loved visiting the beach and eating seafood, especially at BlueBay.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her sisters, Bonnie Byrd and Ellen McCarver.

Dorothy is survived by her husband of 51 years, 10 months and 2 days, Lonnie Hammonds; children, Christine Hammonds of Vail, NC; Jeffrey Hammonds of Cape Canaveral, FL; Linda McGarity (Jack) of Norwood; and Tony Hammonds (Mary) of Villa Rica, GA; grandchildren, Dustin, Shane, Travis, Alex, Nick, Karlei, and Ashley; great-grandsons, Mason, Grayson, and Gage; brother, Joe Canaday Jr. (Brenda) of Rockwell, NC; and sister, Gay Greene (Jim) of Norwood, NC.

Per her request, there will be no memorial service.
