Peggy Black Lesley, 83, of Salisbury, NC, passed away Friday, November 8, 2019, at Glenn Kiser Hospice House in Salisbury. A memorial service will be held to celebrate her life at 1 PM Saturday, November 9, 2019 at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Robin Albright officiating. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the service from 12 until 1 PM.
Born March 9, 1936 in Graham County, NC, she was the daughter of the late James Curtis and Winnie Jordan Black. She was a member of Southside Baptist Church and also attended Eastside Baptist Church where her brother, the late Rev. Joe Black, was pastor. She loved to sing and her beautiful soprano voice will be remembered by many. Her love of singing began as a child and while a student at Millingport High School in Albemarle, NC, she was crowned Miss Southern Radio Queen. She loved children and taught various children’s Sunday School classes for over 50 years. She also led Vacation Bible School for many years. She and her husband also served as foster parents for children at Mills Home in Thomasville, NC. In addition to her love for Jesus and His call on her life to work with children, she loved spending time with her family and going to the beach. Her greatest joy was the blessing of being called “Nanny” by her grandchildren, great grandchildren and her extended family of children whose lives she impacted.
Mrs. Lesley was preceded in death by her husband, Arnold Ray Lesley. She is survived by her son, Tim Lesley (wife, Larue), daughters, Dana L. Lesley (fiancé, David Kerley) and Brenda B. Story. 4 grandchildren, Adam Hamilton (wife Jenni), Josh Lesley, Luke Hamilton (wife, Jessica) and Tiffany Sizemore (husband Derek). 7 great grandchildren, Eli Hamilton, Grey Hamilton, Asher Hamilton, Henley Lesley, Haylee Moore, Reagan Sizemore and Sadie Sizemore. 3 of her siblings preceded her in death, Joe Black, Donnie Black and Patsy Amos. She has 3 surviving sisters, Marcella Smith, Kenetha Honeycutt and Robin Williams.
