George Edward Boyd, 70, of Lexington, passed away Saturday, December 28, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston Salem. He was born on May 13, 1949 in Price Hill, WV to the late Edward Boyd and Catherine Beckingham Boyd.

George attended Mt. Hope High School from 1964 to 1967 and then went on to play football for West Virginia University from 1968 to 1971. He played in the Peach Bowl in 1969. George went on to play for the Dallas Cowboys for short time. He worked as a Life Insurance Salesman and Manager for Liberty Life Insurance Company. He then went on to open his own Insurance Company, American Benefits. He also worked as a Truck Driver as well as a Paver Operator for Haynes Paving Company. George enjoyed playing golf, horseback riding, riding motor cycles, traveling, and playing Pickle Ball

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by sister, Cathy Boyd Portzen,

George is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joan Grandolfi Boyd; and Sister Jane Boyd Meadows, Brother, Scott Boyd, Children: Jennifer Cruickshank Hopson, and Nichole Boyd Zapata.

A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
