Mr. Lucious Ray Bost, 94, of Salisbury passed away at his residence on Wednesday, May 13,2020. He was born March 10, 1926, son of the late Lester Ray Bost and Lucy Cranford Bost, and brother of the late Ruby Bost Kesler. Lucious went to Salisbury schools and was an Eagle Scout. He served in the United States Navy as a Shipfitter 3rd Class on the USS LST 1083 and LST 584 from 6/27/1944 to 5/23/1946. He watched through binoculars as Japan signed surrender papers on the USS Missouri as they were docked in Tokoyo Bay.
Lucious had a special ability to build and supervise construction. Beginning by building houses in 1948, he served as a project superintendent for Wagoner Construction Company 1954-1979, 1989-92 and Rentenbach Engineers Constructors 1979-1989. His accomplishments in Salisbury include the Holiday Inn, Woodleaf Bowling Lanes, Home Savings and Loan, 1st Baptist Church addition, Proctor Chemical, St John’s Lutheran Church chapel and Educational Building, Cartex Mill remodel, NC Federal Savings and Loan, renovations and additions for Rowan Memorial Hospital, and the Somersett Funeral Home Chapel. He also supervised 15 sites outside of Salisbury, including Moses Cone Hospital Phase III and One Salem Tower in Greensboro. He always said everything he did was with God’s help, and it was to God’s glory that his final job was building the sanctuary at 1st Baptist Church in Concord, NC. In his retirement, he built a new house for he and his wife at the age of 70. He loved his farm, nd is known for driving his overloaded golf cart around to work around the property. He never let his double knee replacements and lack of feeling in his lower legs slow him down.
Lucious Ray was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was an honorable man who set examples by his positive attitude, hard work, and faith in God. He was a longtime member of Haven Lutheran Church, later to be baptized and join Maranatha Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Eva Bowler Bost. I have known Ray and Velma for many years now and they are dear friends. I have enjoyed visiting them often on their farm these last 12 years or so. I first met them at Maranatha Bible Church and Ray was baptized in our family’s pool several years back. He loved God and we had many good talks about spiritual things and if you know Ray they weren’t short discussions. I didn’t mind the long talks because Ray was such an intelligent man and a strong Christian believer. We would talk about the Theory of Evolution , the wonders and mysteries of plant and animal behavior, farming and building. I was amazed at his knowledge of all these things and didn’t know ,until now, of all of his accomplishments in construction , service in the US Navy and the things that he left his mark on in Rowan other NC communities. My sister Penny worked at Cone Hospital in Greensboro and Salem Tower. I have seen and been in most of the places he helped build. Awesome work ! His home that he built for himself and Thelma is truly beautiful and he started that project at age 70 ? Wow! He loved to have me come and sing and play the guitar for the two of them and maybe do a little fishing. He knew with my extensive background in Earth and Space sciences ,as well as My love for our Savior, that we would make good buddies and enjoy his thirst to share knowledge. He was right! God has one of His best with Him now!

Gail and Wendy and the rest of the family. I am so sorry for the loss of your father. Your family has been so lucky to have so much love in it with your father as your cornerstone. He and your mother always made Gary and I feel so at home even when we were first married. After all these years he was still a man you knew was a true man of God that had a pure heart. My prayers are with you during this time.

Dear Velma,
Pastor Peter and I were saddened to hear of your loss, but rejoice that Ray is in the presence of our Savior!
We have wonderful memories of visiting you on your farm, sometimes ending the visit on your back porch watching the birds. The Church Christmas gatherings at your farm were so special. One of our favorite memories was Ray’s baptism while Peter was pastor of Maranatha Bible Church. We hold you both in our hearts. May our Lord comfort you.
Love in Christ Jesus,
Vicki Newell
