Denise Broda Guerin, 68, of Concord, passed away Sunday, November 1, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving children and sisters. Denise valiantly fought pancreatic cancer for over 11 years, inspiring everyone who knew her.
She was born January 11, 1952 in Derby, CT to the late Joseph Broda and Emily Valinsky Broda. Denise worked as a nurse for over 30 years, and continued working through much of her cancer treatment. In 2014 she was nominated for the Pinnacle award for her character and dedication to her coworkers and patients. Denise enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, cooking, cosmos, making jewelry, gardening, book club, church group and cruising the aisles of Homegoods or Kohls (often times while wearing her infamous red sweat pants- and of course, always, jewels – her zest for life and positive attitude never wavering). Denise devoted much of her time to sneaking her grandson sugar when her daughter wasn’t looking, and enjoyed frequent ice cream sandwiches and klondike bars with him in the months leading up to her passing. Her grandsons, Wells and Hollis brought her great joy. Denise never lost her sense of humor and loved being with family and friends. She had a big heart and was very giving to everyone. Her children were the center of her universe. She will be sadly missed and forever in our hearts.
Denise is survived by daughter, Courtney Guerin and her husband, Casey and their two children, Wells and Hollis; son, David Guerin and his fiancé, Krysta Asumnna; step daughters, Melissa Maxwell (husband David, children Reid and Kaylie) and Jennifer Skudlarek (husband Jason, children Regan, Zander and Cassidy); and five sisters, Kim White, Joan Mockler, Melanie Chiarella and Karen Hlywa.
A mass will be held at St. Marks Catholic Church in Huntersville, NC, with a celebration of life to follow (date to be determined).
Carolina Cremation is assisting the Guerin family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.
"Cousin" Marilyn says
Courtney, David and family……..I can’t even find the words to tell you how sorry I am that your mother has passed. I am also feeling the heaviness and loss, tremendously. Denise was like a sister to me and I miss her terribly. We shared so much over the years and her bubbly personality, humor and advice would always “pick me up.” She is with Our Lord, now, to suffer no more. Hold onto the wonderful memories of time shared with her and visit those memories, often.
