Janie Sue Smith Hopkins, 62, passed away in her home in Albemarle, NC, of natural causes on Sunday, May 22nd , 2022.
She was a loving, devoted, beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend who walked by Faith in the Loving Graces of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Janie loved chocolate, laughter, deep conversations, encouraging others, and spending time with loved ones. For more than three decades, she grew in patience, grace, and peace with the love of her life—her husband Terry. Her greatest joy was being a mother to her two children.
In her 38-year career as a physical therapist assistant, she worked in nursing homes and in-home care and as an instructor at Stanly Community College—joyfully serving her patients, students, and colleagues through compassionate presence.
She attended First Assembly Church of God in Albemarle, where she led Bible study.
She was preceded in death by her mother Patty Eury, father Ralph Eury, brother James Smith, and sister-in-law Theresa Smith.
She is survived by her husband Terry Hopkins, daughter, Katie Hopkins (Adam Henry); son, Noah Hopkins; sister, Jewel Edwards (Don); niece, Stephanie McKethan (Justin); sister-in-law, Cathy Hopkins Bell (Robert); and many other relatives and friends whom she loved with a passion.
A memorial service will be held at First Assembly of God of Albemarle on Saturday, May 28th, 2022. Family visitation will be at 11am followed by a memorial service at 12pm. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be in her honor to St Jude Children’s Hospital, the Pregnancy Resource Center of Stanly County, or Wycliffe Bible Translator.
