Rachel Carden Merkwa, 52, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, June 3, 2022 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, NC.
She was born July 16, 1969 in Elizabethton, TN. She was a gifted artist and enjoyed drawing and painting. She also enjoyed gathering with friends and playing cards. She was very caring, kind spirited, and never met a stranger. In her spare time she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Salisbury Pride. She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Concord.
Rachel is survived by her wife, Patricia Merkwa; father, Mikel Carden (Linda) of Icard, NC; mother, Helen Carden of Lenior, NC; children, Justin, Joseph and Jennifer; siblings, Mike Carden Jr. (Tina) and sister, Angel Lail (Tony); nephew, Austin Carden (Taylor); niece, Brittany Pennell (Jonathan); and most importantly her grandchildren, Reece, Mason, and Serena.
There will be a Celebration of Life held on July 2nd, 2022 at 2pm at Trinity United Church of Christ, 38 Church St NE, Concord, NC 28025 with Pastor Nathan King officiating.

I am so lucky to have grown up with Rachael she is my niece & she was born when I was only 5 years old. I was able to see her grow up & into the beautiful, sweet, loving & talented person she had become. We all will miss her so very much & our prayers are with her family & friends.
