Gary Franklin Burris, passed away on Monday, August 08, 2022 at Tucker Hospice House in Kannpolis after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was born in Concord, NC on April 22, 1938. He was the son of Claude and Ada McDaniel Burris. Gary was a U.S. Navy veteran and was later employed by several trucking companies in NC and FL. He attended Hartsell High School and Biscayne College. Gary was a dedicated Christian, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather whose goal in life was to be a good provider to his family. He was a licensed pilot and loved flying as well as sailing. He was a talented craftsman and was extremely proud of his handcrafted Nativity scene he displayed in his yard at Christmas. He also enjoyed helping children create birdhouses during VBS at several churches and was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury.
Mr. Burris was preceded in death by his parents, wife; Virginia of St. Augustine, FL, and sister Claudette B. Colee of Concord.
Those left to cherish his memory, daughters; Susan Cooper (Kyle) of St. Augustine, FL, Amy Furr (Bo) of Carolina Beach, Cara Latta (Barry) of Monroe, sons; Sgt.Major Erik Burris (Pam) US Army, Fort Polk, LA, Charles Bradley (Stephanie) of St. Augustine, FL; sister Carolyn B. Williams of Concord, and Marcia Ritchie of Salisbury his companion and caregiver.
Per Mr. Burris request, no services will be held, he will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 2570 St. Peters Church Road, Salisbury, NC 28146
