Fred Lewis Mowery, Jr., son of the late Fred and Marian Swicegood Mowery, left his broken body behind in the early morning hours of September 16, 2023.
He had fought a grueling and valiant battle since June 15, 2022, after a motorcycle accident. He was a 1961 graduate of West Rowan HS and looked forward to talking with classsmates at their monthly meetings. Education included criminal law at UNC, Chapel Hill, Criminal law at George Washington University, and Criminal Justice/Business Administration at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College. Fred was employed with the FBI in Washington, DC, and then Charlotte. After moving back to Salisbury, he began employment with the City of Salisbury while also working part-time as a Special Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. Fred made many friends who shared his love of motorcycles, cars and traveling. He gladly shared the produce from his home garden with others. One of his many joys was working with wood, making swings, benches, bird houses and more, which he shared with many. He was a member of Franklin Baptist Church, participating in projects to help the needy. He also volunteered with N. C. Baptist Carpenters for Christ. His wry sense of humor and his way of giving to others will be missed.
Surviving him are his son, Lewis Mowery (Gretchen), and his beloved grandsons: Mark, Trevor, Dean and Ross, granddaughters: Ashley (Clint Breitweiser) and Emily (Matt Tucker). and great grandchildren: Brielle, Paisleigh, Kaison, Cheyenne, Bennett, and Lauren; and his sister, Margaret Mowery Kirby, and nephew Jeff (Lezlee). His last few months were made easier by his kind care giver, Melody Gale.
The family will receive friends on September 29, 2023 from 11:00am-12:00pm, at Franklin Baptist Church, 3810 US-601, Salisbury, NC 28147. A memorial service will begin at 12:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to his church at 3810 US Hwy. 601 for the children and youth.
Carolina Cremation is assisting the Mowery family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

Uncle Fred was a kind soul with a big heart. He was preceded in death by his wife, Karen Smith Mowery, whom he loved wholeheartedly. It’s disheartening she wasn’t mentioned above in sheer “oversight”. They had a beautiful live story and are now reunited for eternity.

I am sorry to the family for the loss of Fred. I knew Karen and I believe she was waiting up there for him! My heart sunk reading his obit but I know they are United and whole together again.

Know he is rejoicing with Karen around the throne of God. May the children and grandchildren find peace in knowing where he is.

Fred Mowery was a very nice man. He loved his motorcycles, camping, traveling with his wife Karen Smith Mowery who passed away in June 2023. He told me that he missed her so bad, he would tear up when he spoke of her. They loved each other so much! Now they are in Heaven together in no pain, sharing their love with family that had passed on. Fred treated my grandson Thomas, his great nephew like he was blood, let him come fishing anytime, gave him fishing stuff, talked to him on the phone, Thomas will miss him. Thanksgiving and Christmas will not be the same without you both but we know you will be celebrating together. Love you both.
