Stephen David Newell, 95, of Fort Mill, SC, went to be with the Lord on Monday, September 25, 2023. He passed peacefully surrounded by family at Levine & Dickson Hospice House, Charlotte, NC.

Born in Emporium, PA on December 22, 1927, he was the son of the late John E. and Agnes Berkey Newell.  On June 1, 1948, he married Cristina DeLong Newell.  They celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary earlier this year.  Crissie survives.

David is survived by a son, Randy (Marcia) Newell; daughter, Kim (David) Beels; grandsons, David (Eileen) Newell, Keith (Tina) Newell, Stephen (Elise) Beels and Daniel (Amber) Beels; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Mary Maholtz.

He is preceded in death by siblings, John, and Harwood Newell; Josephine Bojalad, Emily Igou and Jessie Maholtz.

A DuBois graduate and a Korean war Veteran, he retired from McDowell Manufacturing (Dubois, PA) as an engineer.  He also worked as a quality engineer after retirement with ZF Lemforder (Lancaster, SC).
He was known for his kind, humble nature, and quick wit.  For many years he served as an elder, teacher and substitute preacher at the DuBois Church of Christ.  Upon moving to South Carolina, he faithfully attended the Gold Hill Road Church of Christ.

There will be no visitation.  Interment will take place at Morningside cemetery in Dubois, PA.

A Celebration of Life will occur at 11 am. Monday, October 9, 2023, at the church of Christ at 1055 Gold Hill Road, Fort Mill, SC 29708. Minister Keaton Pearce officiating. Memorial donations may be made to the DuBois church of Christ, 298 Behringer Highway, DuBois, PA 15801.
