Diane Nesbit Rivers passed away peacefully Thursday, January 18 surrounded by her loving husband, Ray, of 58 years and their 3 children; Julie, Philip and Jason.
She was born November 26, 1946 in Cabarrus County to the late Ralph and Lillian Nesbit and spent the majority of her life in Rowan County. She was educated in the Rowan County School system, graduating from South Rowan High in 1965. A few years after graduating from Salisbury Business College she returned to Rowan County Schools to spend her professional career as secretary of Knollwood Elementary.
Diane’s greatest joys were spending time with her family and friends as well as traveling. Some of her fondest memories were of family trips to the beach.
She enjoyed life and found that the greatest treasures were in those things that money couldn’t buy. Her faith, the sound of the ocean, the feeling of puppy kisses and fur beneath her fingers, the taste of sweet iced tea and time spent laughing with family and friends.
Diane was a loyal friend, loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and devoted wife.
In addition to her parents, Diane is preceded in death by Ralph Nesbitt Jr. (brother), Karen Nesbit Overcash (sister), Larry Overcash (brother in law) and Jeremiah York (grandson).
Diane is survived by her husband, Julius Ray Rivers and their 3 children; Julie York (Jeff), Philip (Christy) and Jason (Suzanne). Grandchildren; Jessi, Elijah (Jordan), Dylan (Rachel), Josiah, Josh, Isabelle, Piper, and great grandson, Jackson. Special nephews Scott and Justin Overcash. Brother, Robert (Peggy) Nesbit. Additionally, many other nephews, nieces and dear friends completed her family.
A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at Grace Lutheran Church (1pm). The service will be conducted by Pastor Joshua Copeland. A time of remembrance and fellowship will follow in the family life center.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to the Grace Lutheran Church youth and children programs. 3020 Grace Church Road Salisbury, NC 28147.
Carolina Cremation is honored to serve the Rivers family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.

My memories of Diane center around the Nesbit cousins and the fun we had together. It is these fond thoughts that will sustain me until I join with those that have gone on to glory already. I can just imagine the laughter & love they are enjoying in Heaven.

Diane was a very kind person, always wanting to know how you were doing. Through the years she always kept up with our family on FB and always had the nicest comments. When the children of the church would visit to sing Christmas carols she would have the biggest smile and invite us in and to stay longer. We will miss you Diane. Prayers for Ray and the family.

There’s not many times that in-laws get together and share grandchildren like we did with Diane and Ray. We celebrated school plays, games, birthdays, going to the beach, and just getting together to catch up! It was always fun being with them. Diane loved her family and Ray with her whole heart and it always showed! We are going to miss her. Love and prayers to the family!❤️

Max and I have many treasured memories with Diane and Ray when we’re young, really young, children even, in Jr. High. Whatever we did, it worked! She will always have a special place in our hearts. Time passed cannot erase a friendship. The Rivers family is in our prayers. NEVER FORGOTTEN!

Julie and family,
Lloyd and I are so very sorry about the passing of your sweet mother. I’ll always remember talking with her in the mall at the indoor playground while Jeremiah played with Preston. What a true loving person she was. Just like I’d known her all my life. Bless you daddy’s heart as his is broken forever. Love you Julie. Mary West
