It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Barbara Coe Clenney. Barbara passed peacefully at Novant Huntersville surrounded by her family on September 17, 2024.
She was born on July 29. 1944 in Surry County, and was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Greensboro Senior High. She went on to work for AT&T for 30+ years. She retired and worked with the CWA Retirement organization and played golf to which she was pretty good. Later on she was diagnosed with Lung Cancer, but that wasn’t going to stop her from living.
Barbara was strong willed and impacted many lives through her cancer journey, she taught those around her what it looks like to live bravely and always with joy and a smile. She adopted a little Yorkie named Tea that she love and pampered. He was her little prince. Barbara was known for her trademark spunk and wit even until the end. Barbara will forever be a bright, guiding light to her family and loved ones…”
While battling what she knew from the start was an incurable cancer. She did so with grace, dignity, integrity, and courage. She battled cancer to the very end; cancer did not beat Barbara. Barbara faced cancer head on, unafraid and armed with the love of Jesus Christ, her Savior.
Although we may no longer physically see Barbara, we believe she has left an indelible mark on all of us lucky enough to have known her. Barbara would want all of us to remember her with a smile rather than with tears. She would want us to find comfort in knowing she is free from pain and home with her Heavenly Father and her family gone before her. We will miss her witty sense of humor, her contagious smile and her love of life.
She was involved with many organizations and charities. She loved softball, golf and basketball and camping.
She said to us, when I die, say a prayer, hug your loved ones, then go eat a good meal and dance to celebrate my life and remember me with joy. She was truly one in a million.
She was preceded in death by her father, Leon Coe and mother, Pauline Coe; sisters, Janie Evans and Marylou Cardwell; brothers, Sammy Coe and Butch Coe; and nephew, Eddie Evans.
She is survived by her son, Todd Clenney and wife, Leslie; nieces, Donna and Debbie Evans, Kim Rhue, Lisa and Britney Coe; nephews, Greg Cardwell, Brain and David Coe.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.donate.cancer.org.
