In Loving Memory of Richard Arthur Basener (24 Years, SGTMAJ, USMC Retired)
1943 – 2024
It is with heartfelt sorrow that we announce the passing of Richard Arthur Basener, a proud 24-year Marine veteran of the Vietnam War, devoted husband, father, and man of great adventure and compassion.
Richard dedicated 24 years of his life to serving his country as a Marine, exemplifying courage and loyalty throughout his service, including his time in Vietnam.
He was the beloved husband of the late Georgiamae Basener, with whom he shared a loving and devoted marriage. Together, they built a life filled with mutual respect, care, and countless cherished memories.
Additionally, Richard Basener will be remembered for his love for animals through the fondness he had for dogs and cats, and his unquenchable thirst for adventure, always seeking new horizons and experiences. May he now rest peacefully, embarking on his final journey.
Richard is survived by his loving family; daughters: Christine Barger (spouse: Randy Barger), Linda Dunning (spouse: John Welch), Dawn Hansen, and Darlene Hildebrand; son: Duane Fluhrer (spouse: Phyllis).
He was a proud grandfather to Nick Wilson (spouse: Lauren), who blessed him with two great-grandchildren, Ryann and Smith, Brandon Wilson (spouse: Michelle), who blessed him with two great-grandchildren, Ava and Bodhi, and Ashley Dunning, Alicia Dunning (fiancé: Michael), Joel Fluhrer (spouse: Moncerratt), and Jennifer Greenough (spouse: Brian).
Additionally, Richard was cherished by his extended step-grandchildren; Angela Pinnix (spouse: Chad), Jason Barger (spouse: Jatana).
Ceremony is open to all that would like to attend and will be held at the Salisbury National Cemetery 501 Statesville Blvd Salisbury NC 28144 on January 17th, 2025 at 1:00 pm.
