Let the family know you care by sharing this tribute.
After a valiant and hard-fought battle with cancer, Timothy Allen Woodie passed away on January 2, 2025. He died just a few weeks shy of his 73rd birthday, but he looked and acted 20 years younger. Were it not for cancer, he would have lived to be 120.
Tim was a gifted carpenter and stone mason by trade. His family always looked forward to seeing what he built them for Christmas, from birdhouses and nutcrackers to planters and keepsake boxes, he always created something special, always perfectly designed and built.
In addition to his impressive woodworking, Tim pursued a wide variety of interests. He had a strong intellectual curiosity and loved reading, learning, and exploring. He knew every corner of NC, hiked every trail, and never met a stranger when he traveled across the state.
He was a prolific gardener, growing enough fruits and vegetables to keep his extended family and friends well stocked.
Tim lovingly cultivated house plants and kept a huge collection in his home. Over the years countless people have grown huge and healthy plants that began as tiny clippings from Tim’s collection.
Tim had tons of friends – including many lifelong friends – that were like family to him. He enjoyed riding motorcycles on long road trips with them, as well as catching fish in small creeks and in the deep ocean, trying out new burger joints in remote corners of the Carolinas, and just shooting the breeze with his friends on the porch. He loved every adventure he took with his buddies and loved their children and pets as though they were his own.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Geneva Woodie; siblings, Farrell Woodie, Claudette Woodie Jones, and Alice Woodie Thompson; and brother-in-law J.I. Thompson.
Those left to cherish his memory include his brother, Grady Woodie (Lynda) of New Bern, brother-in-law Wayne Jones of Faith, and beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
In light of his great love of animals, memorials may be made to the Rowan County Animal Shelter. Although Tim requested that no services be held in his memory, he would be honored by taking a hike in the woods, planting a tree, basking in the natural beauty our state offers, and showing kindness to all of God’s creatures.
Family members wish to express special thanks to the Trellis Supportive Care (Hospice) team, with particular gratitude for Nurse Karen.
Condolences may be mailed to Tim’s niece, Sabrina Niggel, at P.O. Box 179, Faith, NC, 28041.
Carolina Cremation is honored to serve the Woodie family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.
