Paul A. Fortin, 84, of Iron Station, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 5, 1941, in Burlington, VT, Paul was the son of the late Edwin and Alice Gaudette Fortin. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard before dedicating his professional career to the University of Vermont Bookstore as a Merchandise Buyer. With his keen eye for detail and easygoing nature, he was a favorite among colleagues and vendors alike.
Paul was a man of immense kindness, compassion, and humor. His love for his family was boundless, and he never missed an opportunity to bring laughter to those around him. A gifted storyteller, he delighted in telling jokes—often laughing before he even reached the punchline, making them all the more memorable.
An avid golfer and the undisputed champion of horseshoes, Paul brought friendly competition and joy to every gathering. But above all, his greatest pride was his family. He deeply loved his sons, and his grandchildren, Matthew and Megan, were his whole world. He was devoted to them as their beloved “Grampy” and was eagerly anticipating the birth of his first great-grandchild, Rosalie Fortin, due in July. He wore his “Great Grampy” sweatshirt with pride and shared his excitement with everyone he met.
Paul has deeply missed his bride, Barbara, since her passing in 2023. They were inseparable, always side by side, a testament to a lifetime of devotion. Now reunited, their love story continues beyond this world. Paul had a special bond with his son, Christopher, who was devoted to him and always made sure his father had his favorite cookies and Devil Dogs and the trips to Five Guys. Paul looked forward to their visits, cherishing the time they spent together. Chris adored his father and treasured every moment, creating memories that will live on forever.
In addition to his parents and wife, Paul was preceded in by his beloved son, Kevin Fortin. He is survived by his son, Christopher and his wife, Kathleen, of Iron Station. Kathleen was not just a daughter-in-law to Paul—he loved her as a daughter, and she absolutely adored Paul. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Matthew and wife Julia, and Megan Frowine and husband Andrew; and many dear friends who were touched by his warmth and generosity. Paul was especially looking forward to meeting his great-granddaughter, Rosalie Fortin, due in July.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 30, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at LaVigne Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow on Monday, March 31, at 11:30 AM at St. Francis Xavier Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Paul’s memory to the Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.
Paul’s legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
