Karen Elaine Safrit, 70, passed away at home on February 18, 2025.
Born on June 5, 1954, to W. Odell Foutz and Ruby Brown, Karen spent most of her life in Landis, NC. She attended Landis Elementary and Corriher-Lipe Middle School. Karen graduated from South Rowan High School in 1972 and always had a close connection with many of her classmates.
Karen married Roger Safrit in 1977, and they had twins, Diana and Shane. Karen spent a great deal of time with her family, creating lasting memories together.
Karen dedicated her life to caring for others, building a long and fulfilling career as a registered nurse. She held various roles in the nursing field, but her true passion was behavioral health, where she made an impact on both her patients and colleagues.
In the early 1990’s, Karen and her family lived in Banner Elk, NC, where she discovered a lifelong passion for crafting. She spent countless hours creating handmade items like dreamcatchers and earrings.
Karen had a deep love for science fiction and fantasy, with Star Trek being her all-time favorite. A proud Trekkie, she found joy in exploring strange new worlds through books and television. She was also an avid fan of mystery thrillers. She thoroughly enjoyed reading Dean Koontz novels and watching Murder, She Wrote. Inspired by her love of a good mystery, she even spent time writing her own stories.
Music was another great passion in Karen’s life, and she was a devoted fan of music from the 1960s and 1970s. Most often, she could be heard listening to any album by The Monkees.
Karen was preceded in death by her husband Roger, who passed in 2023, and is survived by their children, Diana Humphreys (Corey) of Concord, NC, and Shane Safrit (Amanda) of China Grove, NC. She is also survived by many cherished friends and extended family members.
A visitation to celebrate Karen’s life and share memories will be held in the Sanctuary at First Reformed Church in Landis on March 20, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
