John Walter “Jay” Rusher, 96, of Salisbury, passed away on September 27, 2025, after a period of declining health.
Born on July 31, 1929, in Rowan County, Jay was the son of the late Walter Lee Rusher and Essie Mahaley Rusher.
Jay graduated from East Spencer High School and retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad as Chief Yard Clerk. He was a member of Union Lutheran Church.
In addition to his parents, Jay was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Geneva Shuping Rusher; his son-in-law, Wayne Hoffman; his brothers, James, Willie, Clyde, Paul, Glenn, Worth, Floyd and Robert Rusher; and his sister, Mae Snider.
He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Hoffman; his son, Mike Rusher (Debra); and his two grandsons, Matthew Hoffman and Mark Rusher, who will cherish his memory.
A private graveside service will be held at Rowan Memorial Park.
