Carol Kathleen Schmidt (December 22, 1935 – May 26, 2026)

Carol Kathleen Schmidt, 90, of Concord NC passed away peacefully at her home on May 26, 2026, surrounded by her loving family. Carol is survived by her husband of 70 years, Richard, her three daughters, six grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Known affectionately by her family as “the bionic woman,” Carol never let anything stop her. She was constantly trying to make the world around her a better place. She affected so many people in so many ways. From her grandchildren and great grandchildren to the staff at the establishments she and Richard frequented, Carol shared her love every minute of every day.

Following her career in education as a school librarian, she continued to give of herself in retirement. She spent countless hours creating quilts for hospitalized children, providing comfort in difficult times. She served on the board of the public library, volunteered with CVAN, and with the literacy council helping adults learn to read and write. She was an amazing chef, from a simple pesto to elaborate Indian meals, she inspired an appreciation for fine foods and, more importantly, of breaking bread together.

Carol and Richard shared over 70 years together, a precious gift. They traveled the country and the world together. They lived in New York, California, India, Massachusetts, and Maryland, before arriving at their final homestead in North Carolina. There are too many tales to tell, but mainly there is LOVE.

A Celebration of Life is planned at Cabarrus Brewing Company on August 15 th at 2:00 PM.
