Charles Willis Sherrill, Jr. 84, went home to be with Jesus on October 15, 2026.

He was born on September 22, 1942 in Mooresville, NC. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to all. An ordained Deacon, he was an active member of First Baptist Church of Salisbury where he served as a trustee on the finance committee and enjoyed mission trips to Kentucky to share the love of Jesus.

Charlie worked in the insurance industry for many years starting with Pilot Life and then Nationwide Insurance. He served his Country Honorably for six years in the North Carolina Army National Guard. Later in his career he became the Director of Transportation for Mooresville Graded School District before retiring from the Salisbury Area Transit System.

He is preceded in death by his parents Charles Willis Sherrill, Sr. and Lavelette C. Sherrill, his sister Sylvia Matthews and husband Jack, nephew Jeff Matthews and son Keith, niece Susan Gillet and son David.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 56 years Connie, son Chris Sherrill (Lynn), daughter Kimberly Nelson (Michael), grandchildren Charles C. Sherrill, Jr (Brittany), Austin Sherrill, Carter and Claire Nelson, great-granddaughter Blakely Sherrill, and nephew John Matthews (Cheryl).

A celebration of life will be held at First Baptist Church of Salisbury on October 22, 2026. Visitation will be from 12:30-2:30 PM with the service beginning at 3:00 PM. Please wear your favorite color, as Charlie did not want anyone wearing black. In lieu of flowers or plants, please make donations to NC Baptist Children’s Homes, Meals on Wheels Rowan, First Baptist Church Missions, or the charity of your choosing.
