Alice Crook Blackburn, 81, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to Dixie and James Crook of Jacksonville, Florida,
Alice lived a life defined by love. She was a wonderful mother and a wonderful person, a
love to all who knew her, and most especially to her family, who were the heart of her
world. Alice was an English teacher in Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, where she was an
outstanding educator. She was even honored in the Charlotte Observer for her
extraordinary efforts to reach all children. Alice inspired her daughter Laurie and her
granddaughterAllie to follow in her footsteps and become teachers as well. Above all, she
dedicated herself first and foremost to her children and to being a wife and mother. Her
warmth, kindness, and generous spirit touched everyone fortunate enough to cross her
path, and she will be remembered for the way she made people feel cherished.
Alice married Charles Haynes Blackburn, also of Jacksonville, Florida. Together they had
two daughters. She is survived by her older daughter, Laurie Blackburn Earnheart (Donald
Stephen Earnheart), of Denver, North Carolina, mother of Caroline Earnheart Capps and
Luke Miller Earnheart, and her younger daughter, Robin Blackburn Randall (James Travis
Randall), of Shelby, North Carolina, mother ofAllie Randall and Brooke Randall Meagher
She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Haynes Blackburn, and her parents,
Dixie and James Crook.
A private family ceremony will be held in the spring at her favorite place, Lake Norman.
