Cora Dail Petrea, 86, passed away on Monday, November 2, 2026.
Born in Dillon, SC, she was the daughter of the late Rufus Pete Johnson and Eliza Jane Gibson Carter.
Cora would share stories of her time as a waitress at South of the Border in South Carolina and working in textiles. She spent her later years working with individuals in their homes as a caretaker establishing companionship and making day-to-day living easier for her clients.
In addition to her parents, Cora was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jean Mishue; son, Timothy Lynn Mishue; grandson, Claude James Mishue; brothers, Luke, John, Monroe, Rupert, and Percy Johnson; sisters, Pauline Carter, Lottie Johnson, Sarah Johnson, and Bessie Johnson Hogg.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Roy Petrea; sons, Clifton Mishue Jr. and Michael Mishue (Kathy); stepsons, David Petrea and Gary Petrea (Mary); and stepdaughters, Nancy Stillwell (Tim) and Rebecca Moss.
Leaving behind a legacy of love carried on by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren is one of her greatest accomplishments. Her role as grandmother was the one that meant the most to her, and once you were her grandchild, you were always considered one of her grandchildren.
Also, left to cherish her memory are her sister-in-laws, Kay Johnson and Margaret Johnson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cora was strong in her faith and wanted to be remembered as someone who was loving, kind, and a friend to everyone. She loved reading new recipes, flipping through junk books, and playing cards with her husband to pass the time.
Much like the hummingbirds she loved, Cora had tremendous inner strength with a joy and sweetness that left a lasting impression on those she met. Her memory will stay with us always.
No arrangements have been set at this time.
Carolina Cremation is assisting the Petrea family. Online condolences may be made at www.carolinacremation.com.
