John Taylor, 91, of Charlotte, NC, passed away on July 27, 2025. John was born on May 22, 1934 in Norfolk, Virginia. John is preceded in death by his parent, Helen Stephens Taylor and Charles Rueger Taylor and his sister, Betty Taylor. After graduating from high school, John earned a degree in Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia.
His career in architecture started in Greensboro, NC and continued in Charlotte, NC. While practicing architecture, he taught part-time at CPCC for many years where he found great personal pleasure being in the classroom. He was well known in the Charlotte community as an architectural model builder and published a book on “Modeling for Architects and Engineers”.
John was a talented sculptor and created sculptures in various medians such as stone, metal and wood. Some of his most inspiring sculptures can be found in Sardis Presbyterian Church.
John is survived by his wife, Laura. Daughter Karen Minton (husband Benjamin K Minton) of Oak Island, NC and Sons Brad Taylor and Michael Taylor of Charlotte. He is survived by two grandchildren Taylor Minton and Benjamine K. Minton, Jr. (Whitney Minton).and one great grandchild Samuel Minton; his nephew, Alonzo Taylor (Jane) and his niece, Brooks Taylor and great nieces (Hazel Nelson and Mary Nelson).
A memorial service to celebrate John’s life will be held August 2, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Sardis Presbyterian Church, 6100 Sardis Road, Charlotte, NC 28270. The family will receive friends following the service.
