Alphonzo James Dickerson Jr passed away peacefully on July 3, 2022, at Hospice of Union County in Monroe, NC, surrounded by his daughters.
“Al”, as he was fondly called by family and friends, was born on January 25, 1954, in Danville, VA, to the late Alphonzo H. Dickerson Sr. and Alberta Harper Dickerson,
Al was educated in the Danville Public School System. He attended I W Taylor Elementary School, John M Langston High School, and George Washington High School. Al joined the United States Marine Corps in 1972, serving until 1975. Al attended The City College of New York while working on Wall Street until he re-enlisted in the Marines in 1981 and served until 1988 as a Payroll Administrator. After his service in the Corp, Al worked as a Payroll Specialist at ADP until he moved to Charlotte, NC, and worked for Diversey in the maintenance department until he retired for health reasons. He had an amazing love of music, especially Reggae and all the latest movies. He enjoyed reading and had read the Bible three times from cover to cover. Al also enjoyed the game of pool where he was a member of a championship team. He cherished conversations with any and everyone. He was like a walking Encyclopedia and loved sharing his thoughts and knowledge on any subject you wanted to talk about. Al adored his family, especially his children and grandchildren.
Al leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Pamela Dickerson of Randallstown, Md, one son, Jameel Robinson of Baltimore, MD, and two daughters, Michelle Dickerson of Frisco, TX, and Nikki Lawson (David) of Randallstown, MD. One brother, Randolph Towles of Danville, VA, three sisters, Linda Towles and Lorraine Frazier of Yonkers, NY, and Lula Dickerson of Danville, VA. Seven grandchildren, Jamell Robinson Jr. of Dundalk, MD, Glenn Robinson of Randallstown, MD, Mya and Maliyah Robinson of Middle River, MD, Malina and Micah Fowler of Frisco, TX, and baby Lawson on the way, Randallstown, MD. and a host of beloved relatives and friends.
The family of Alphonzo James Dickerson Jr would like to express our sincere gratitude and appreciation for your many acts of friendship and love shown during our bereavement. We are grateful for your comforting words and prayers which have been an encouragement and blessing to our entire family. A special thank you to the staff at Hospice of Union County and the staff at Carolina Veterans Crematory. May God continue to richly bless and sustain each of you in His loving care.
A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, July 30, 2022 at12 noon at North New Hope Baptist Church, 123 Old Piney Forest Rd, Danville, VA with Reverend Marvin Warner officiating. Interment to follow in the Waller/Dickerson Family Cemetery, Waller Rd, Dry Fork, VA.
