Mr. Benny Ray Norwood, 83, joined his Lord and Savior on Saturday March 21^st, 2020 at Atrium Healthcare University, Charlotte, NC after a long bout of recurring illness.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a future date due to the COVID19 Virus.

Ben was born on May 21, 1937 in Lincoln County, NC. Mr. Norwood was the son of the late George Mack Norwood and Mabel Thompson Norwood, both of Lincolnton, NC.

Ben grew up in Lincoln and Catawba Counties, NC, playing baseball and graduating from Bandy High School in Newton, NC. He also attending Central Piedmont in Charlotte. Ben’s journey led him to the oil fields of Texas and Industrial plants of Iowa in his early career. His love for the Carolinas brought him back home, living in Statesville then for many years in Charlotte, with his high school sweetheart Carol Ann Sigmon and dedicating time with their two children Chris and Shelley.

Ben wanted the best for his children and was a supporter of Northside Baptist Church and Northside Christian Academy. He was a 32^nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and loved his days and comradery working for the City of Charlotte Fire Department. Ben was a staple with his family owned business Norwood Garden Center for 36 years. He loved the Carolina beaches with his family, and no matter the audience, he had that natural ability to share a joke. He loved cars and being at the racetrack or glued to the TV watching NASCAR races. Ben was a colorful character, and many moments of his life brings a smile to those who were around him.
Ben is survived by his wife of 63 years Carol Sigmon Norwood, son Chris Norwood and wife Jera of Frog Pond, NC, daughter Shelley Norwood Sealy and husband Michael of Waxhaw, NC, grandchildren Laven of Frog Pond, Stephanie Sealy Taylor of Charlotte, and Justin Sealy of Waxhaw.
