Charles “Chuck” Arthur Padgitt passed away peacefully on Friday, July 24, 2015 at the Tucker Hospice House in Kannapolis, NC. He was born on November 24, 1927 in Chicago, IL to Charles V. Padgitt and Emma Adeline Klemz Padgitt.
Chuck previously lived in Parkersburg, WV and Cocoa Beach, FL. He was a graduate of Steinmetz High School (Chicago) and the Illinois Institute of Technology. He served his country in World War II as a member of the First Infantry Division (the “Big Red One”) during the German occupation. On August 11, 1951, he married Dorothy Jean Wickwire. He was employed as a chemical engineer by Marbon Chemicals, which was later purchased by Borg-Warner Chemical and ultimately GE Chemicals.
Chuck served his community unselfishly in many ways: he was on the Board of Directors at Camden-Clark Hospital in Parkersburg, WV, he was a member of the Citizens on Patrol (“COPS”) program in Cocoa Beach, FL, and he was a devoted and faithful servant of First Lutheran Church, Parkersburg, WV, and The Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, Cocoa Beach, FL. Chuck and Jean were world travelers, and visited every continent and most individual countries at least once over the years.
Charles is survived by his wife Jean of Charlotte, NC; his two sons James C. Padgitt (Joanne) of Buffalo Grove, IL, Steven J. Padgitt ( Stacey) of Irving, TX, and daughter Janice C. Le Maire (David) of Charlotte, NC; four grandchildren, Jennifer Laquerre (Robert) of Ft. Payne, AL, Nathaniel Le Maire of Fletcher, NC, Christopher Le Maire of Charlotte, NC, and Kathryn Padgitt of Buffalo Grove, IL; three great-grandchildren, Davin, Beckett and Emerie Laquerre of Ft. Payne, AL; a brother Kenneth W. Padgitt (Arlene) of Northbrook, IL; five nieces and two nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emma Padgitt, and brother Howard Padgitt.
A special thank you to Dr. Douglas Brooks of Doctors Making House Calls and The Laurels in Highland Creek. Also thank you to Carolina Cremation for all the arrangements.
A reception to honor his life will be held in Charlotte, NC, on August 15, 2015, details to be available.

To the entire Padgitt family, I am so sorry for the loss of your father and husband. Jim and Janice, I have often thought of you over the years. My brother Dana and I talked of you recently. We do tend to lose track of old school friends as time go by. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Condolence for Charles A. Padgitt,
This is for Jean Padgitt his surviving wife.
I am Jack Dowling who knew Chuck through the bridge group in Parkersburg.
the bridge group was started in 1989 by Bill Watson and was a group of 9 men playing 2 tables plus 9 substitutes. Chuck was a regular ,humorous ,winning member until you moved to Florida.
The bridge group is still active with 10 members and substitutes and called Young Men’s Bridge Group. I am the only member of the original 9 members still playing with the group. Other original members have died. Members I have no knowledge of are John Bevere, Jerry Koetting, Ken Ratenbury, and Jay Martin. All moved to Florida years ago. Are you aware of the life of any of these men?

Dear Jean,
I am so sorry about Chuck’s passing. You were both my family in the USA. I have great memories of moments we spent together, and I will always be grateful for the love and friendship you showed me.
Unfortunately I will be in Brazil in August and I will not be able to attend the celebration of Chuck’s life.
My condolences to you, and be in peace.

Woody and I were saddened to learn of Chucks passing in the paper yesterday. He was such a gentlemen and good person and I felt privileged to be one of “Charlie’s Angels”. We have blessed with friendship from both of you over the years and while Chuck will be missed he will not be forgotten – with Love, Prayer, and God’s Blessings to you and your family. Betsy & Woody

Dear Jean and family:
We are sorry to learn of the passing of “Good Old Chuck”, the name he used to indentify himself in our Emails to each other.
We lived in the same building as the Chuck and Jean for many years and couldn’t have had better neighbors. We fondly remember the 4th floor Board Meetings, watching night rocket launches, parties, etc.
Chuck left good impressions on those folks whose lives he touched and is sorely missed by all who knew him.
Our condolence and deep sympathy to his entire family.

Dear Jean, my mom and I wanted to let you know how sorry we are to hear about Chuck’s passing. My dad used to talk about how much fun he had when he used to play tennis with Chuck in Parkersburg. You both were both always there for my mom and helped us through tough times, while you lived in Cocoa Beach. He was known has a very patient and sincere person and so many people admired him. Please take care and we will continue to pray for you and your family. Sincerely, Lynn
