Don Wayne Simpson, 74, of Cleveland, NC, was called Home on October 13, 2017. He was in the company of his family and loved ones at the Gordon Hospice House, Statesville NC.

Don was born in Monroe, NC on August 18, 1943. Don is survived by his wife, Gertrude Karen Simpson of 55 years, daughter Michelle Pasko (Jack), daughter Donna Waldo (Doug), daughter Leslie Tubridy (Bob), son Joe Simpson (Jessica), brother Ricky Simpson and many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family. Don was a loving father, husband, grandfather, brother and friend to all.

Don had a long productive career with IBM and enjoyed 26 years of retirement prior to his illness. Don loved history, reading, and learning. He was a wood worker, bee keeper and enjoyed movies, music and electronics. In his free time he enjoyed watching football and basketball as he also loved sports. Don was happiest enjoying the company of his family. Don was a caring patriarch who provided guidance and support to his family and loved ones at all times.

The family will hold a memorial service on Monday, October 16, 2017 at 11:00 am located at Cleveland First Baptist Church, Cleveland, NC. Memorial donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made in Don’s name to the Halifax County Beekeepers Association, care of Jim Zeigler – Program Director, 4019 Tobacco Road, Nathalie, VA 24577-3817.
