Dorothy “Dot” Elizabeth Steele Archer, 95, of Cooleemee, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Terra Bella of Salisbury after a period of declining health.

She was born July 17, 1927, in Rowan County, NC, to the late William Ervin Steele and Mary Ethel Whitley Steele.  She graduated from Woodleaf High School and also attended Salisbury Business College.  Dorothy had a strong work ethic and her work history includes Erwin Mills, Burlington, Real Reel, Wonderknit, and Gannt Personnel in various office, administrative, and human resource roles.  She never officially “retired.” After working in the corporate world, she started working as a private caregiver, volunteered at A Storehouse for Jesus, cared for her great-granddaughter, Becca, and later volunteered in the activities office at Terra Bella.

In her spare time she enjoyed studying the Bible, cooking, tending her flowers, and listening to bluegrass music with friends.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan “Sonny” Archer; daughter, Penny Elizabeth Foster Calhoun; and brothers, Maultin Steele and Quentin Steele.

Dorothy is survived by her grandchildren, Tara Calhoun Wilkinson of Salisbury and Benjamin Calhoun of Cooleemee; great-granddaughter, Rebecca Wilkinson of Salisbury; son-in-law George (Patti) Calhoun of Summerfield; her beloved dog Sunny; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on January 21, 2023, at 5:00pm at Camp Manna, 243 Gibson Way, Mocksville, NC 27028
