Jack Wendell “Wendell” Floyd, 83, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away on August 24, 2026.  Mr. Floyd was born on July 10, 1943, in Finklea, South Carolina, to the late Laneau B. Floyd and Ida Estella Clark Floyd.

Affectionately known as Wendell, he was a graduate of Finklea High School’s Class of 1961.  Wendell proudly served his country in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968.  Following his military service, he worked as a bus driver for the New York City Transit Authority for 18 years.  Wendell was a member of Silent Grove Missionary Baptist Church and a faithful member of Trinity Baptist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where he served on the Scholarship Committee.  He enjoyed caring for his yard, baking, and, above all, spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, Wendell was preceded in death by his son, Roderic Scott; and his sisters, Meekie Faye Floyd and Katie Parker.  He is survived by his wife of more than 55 years, Verdia Irene Floyd; his children, Sonja Scott and Nikki Floyd; his grandchildren, Jonathan Perez and Judith Perez; his sisters, Marlene Hopkins and Brenda “Nip” Floyd; his brother, Rev. John D. Floyd; his brothers-in-law, Henry Hopkins and Richard Parker; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Floyd; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and dear friends.

A memorial service was held Wednesday, September 2, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Silent Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Finklea, South Carolina.
