James Alfred Murphy, Sr. 82, of Salisbury, passed away Sunday, May 26, 2024 at The Laurels of Salisbury, from years of declining health.

He was born May 4, 1942 in Newport News, VA and grew up in Clendenin, WV. James served in the United States Navy from 1960 to 1965. He worked as a computer specialist for the U.S. Government from 1965 until retirement. He was an accomplished competitive bridge player and earned the title of Grand Life Master by competing all over the U.S., over many years. He loved attending his grandchildren’s activities and sporting events.

Mr. Murphy was preceded in death by his parents, Bonnie Alfred Murphy and Dollie Murphy; several siblings and his son, Michael Lorain Murphy.

James is survived by Eileen Murphy (former wife of 50 years); siblings, Robert Murphy, Paula Myers; son, James Murphy, Jr. (Natalie Murphy), daughter-in-law, Kimberly Murphy; grandchildren, Marlee Murphy, Allie M. Bueche (Paul), James “Jake” Murphy, III (Sydney), Jackson Murphy, Zacheri McIsaac, Christian Murphy and Ryne Murphy

The family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday, June 27, 2024, 12:00 pm – 1:00 pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Salisbury, NC.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, June 27, 2024, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
