James “Ray” Stutts, 84, of Salisbury, passed away on September 26, 2016 at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury. James was born on July 31, 1932 in Mecklenburg County, NC to the late Glenn Franklin Stutts and Hattie Mae Westmoreland Stutts. He proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
After returning home he began a career in Law Enforcement with Mooresville Police Dept. and then the NC Highway Patrol where he worked for the remainder of the 50’s and throughout the 1960’s stationed in Caldwell and Alleghany Counties. He then worked for a number of years at the Federal Reserve Bank in Charlotte, NC as a guard and retired from that job to spend time at home with family and working in his garden.
Ray was a very quiet man who never complained. He spent the last two years of his life at the North Carolina Vet. Home in Salisbury where he passed away quietly in his sleep. He enjoyed being around other veterans and wore his “Korea” cap proudly.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in deathb by two brothers, Thomas Lee Stutts & Glenn Edgar Stutts. Ray married Mary Margaret Gibson (Stutts) and had one daughter Margaret “Paige” Stutts, both preceded him in death.
He is survived by many nephews and nieces.
A private burial will take place at a later date at Wesley Chapel Methodist Church near Troutman, NC.
