Jeffrey “Jeff” Lowe Abernethy, 67, of Iron Station, NC slipped peacefully into the arms of his Savior Monday August 10, 2026 at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville, NC. By his side in his final moments were the two that mattered most to him, Angie and Cotton.

Jeff was born March 23, 1959 in Lincoln County to the late Blair “Boob” and Billie Lowe Abernethy. He is survived by his long-term partner of more than 20 years, Angie Bustle of the home, and his constant companion, Cotton. He is also survived by his two older brothers, “Bud” Abernethy of Lincolnton, NC and Dan Abernethy & wife, Janet of Denver, NC; nephew Jason Abernethy & wife, Cassie with their children Parker and Reese, all of Denver, NC; and his beloved niece, Brandi Morgan and her children, Davis and Larson, also of Denver, NC.

He is preceded in death by one of his two best friends, Carson Casey, and is survived by his “ride-or-die” lifelong best friend, Jeff Fisher, also of Iron Station, NC.

Jeff had a lifelong love of being outdoors. He grew up riding horses, farming, playing baseball as a pitcher, and fishing. His last jobs prior to disabling health issues were working in the logging industry. In fact, logging actually changed his life, because it was literally in the woods where he and Angie met. Everyone who knew Jeff knew that he was a true and loyal friend; and he met and made so many of his friends through another of his pastimes, playing pool. He had been a member of both the American Poolplayers’ Association (APA) and the Carolina Pool League (CPL). He was also an Auxillary Member of the VFW Post 1706 in Lincolnton, NC.

In his last years, Jeff suffered from numerous health issues and had been receiving hospice services from VIA Health Partners in Lincolnton, NC for the last few months. However, in typical Jeff style, he was not going to let something like some health issues stop him from doing exactly what he wanted to do. One of his favorite things, especially in recent years, was mowing the grass and working in the yard. The hospice physician had even told Jeff that his mowing days were done; but even in his last days, he proved that up until the very end he would continue to do the things he loved as long as he was able. That is how Jeff had lived his entire life…on his terms. And those who knew him loved him for it.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 4:30pm at Captain Jack’s Brews & Cues in Newton, NC. A benefit pool tournament will be held following the memorial.
