John Sherman Klaver, 71, of Salisbury, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.
He was born September 27, 1952, in Norfolk, Virginia to Peter and Elsie Lynch Klaver. He graduated high school from Shenandoah valley academy in Virginia and continued his education at Southern Adventist University graduating with a BS in Business Administration and a minor in secondary education. John worked as a nursing home administrator for twenty-five years and was a member of the Tennessee and North Carolina healthcare associations. He was a lifelong member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church and served many years as a Sabbath school teacher, deacon, and elder, among other positions.
John’s favorite part of the day was in the morning when he spent time in God’s word. He also took great joy in praying for others, always praying for them by name. John loved music and believed music was one of God’s gifts to be enjoyed and shared with others. He spent much time playing his guitar and singing at church services, funerals, at various nursing homes, and the local Homeless shelter.
He loved exploring nature and made sure that his family spent plenty of time making memories following creeks, hiking mountains, and even getting down and dirty in the caves of Tennessee and Virginia. His favorite TV shows were Star Trek and The Gaither Homecoming. During the last several years of his life he became quite a storyteller, sharing stories and memories from his childhood and career.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brother, Nick Klaver. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of fifty-two years, Louise Klaver, his brother, Pete Klaver, his four children, Wendy, Julie, John, and Destiny, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
The family will greet friends and relatives at 3:00 P.M. on October 30th at Salisbury Seventh-Day Adventist Church, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 P.M. The memorial service will be officiated by Pastor Scottie Deal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salisbury Seventh-Day Adventist School located at 305 Rudolph Rd, Salisbury NC 28144.
A special thank you to the men and women of Forsyth Medical Center from the ICCU and Palliative Care team and Dr. Sean Malone, John’s longtime family doctor and friend.
